A murderous musical is ready to hit the Owen stage.
John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse’s “Chicago,” directed by Jeff Baldwin, will run through June 4.
Baldwin has directed many shows at both The Owen and The Crighton theaters and has the most number of Montie Awards in the ceremony’s history. He most recently won Best Overall Performance for his role as Ebenezer Scrooge in The Players Theatre Company’s “Christmas Carol the Musical.”
This description of the show is from The Playeres’s website:
“In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune and acquittal.”
Aside from Baldwin, this show brings several Montie winners back to the stage.
Adam Isbell, as Mary Sunshine and Hair & Makeup, won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his 2015 role in Stage Right Production’s “Shrek the Musical.”
